Two years after my mom’s death, my father died of pneumonia. This time Amir only waited 2-3 months to tell us. Again, both Zaman and I went through the grieving process and all of the guilty feelings for not having been there for him. And above all, we suffered for never having gotten the chance to tell our father that we loved him, and to say goodbye before he died. We were estranged, due to the fact that he lived with his new wife and kids. We still loved him and cared for him, though.

Now that we were so far away, my feelings were much stronger for my family back home. We had a memorial service for my father with my aunt Sofia, her family and a few friends. I truly believed that my mother and father were together now in heaven. Nothing and nobody was going to separate them, and on that note, I felt better, and life went on.
